CONTROLLED GREENHOUSE RESEARCH

Precision Growing Environments for Scientific Testing

Our greenhouse research is conducted in the California Bay Area, utilizing controlled growing environments and specialized research facilities through our scientific collaborations.

Depending on the facility and experimental requirements, studies can utilize environmental controls for temperature, lighting, humidity, irrigation, and nutrient delivery.

These controlled conditions allow researchers to isolate specific variables, compare treatment responses, and reduce environmental variability that may otherwise influence results.

Our research environments support:

* Customized irrigation and nutrient application schedules

* Controlled temperature, humidity, and lighting conditions

* Dedicated treatment groups and untreated controls

* Replicated experimental designs

* Crop-specific growing protocols

* Scheduled plant measurements and sample collection

* Research practices designed to minimize treatment contamination and experimental variability

Research crops include fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants, with species selected according to the product and study objectives.

Each experiment is designed around the client’s formulation, intended agricultural application, and specific research questions.

OUR GREENHOUSE RESEARCH CAPABILITIES

01 | Independent Product Efficacy Trials

Determine how your product performs under controlled growing conditions.

We design customized greenhouse trials to evaluate the effects of agricultural inputs on plant growth, development, health, and productivity.

Studies can include multiple treatment concentrations, application schedules, and untreated controls to identify measurable differences in plant response.

Research measurements may include:

* Germination and establishment rates

* Plant height and vegetative growth

* Leaf development and chlorophyll-related measurements

* Root growth and development

* Fresh and dry biomass

* Flowering and fruit production

* Crop yield and harvest characteristics

These studies help clients evaluate product efficacy, investigate optimal application rates, and identify promising formulations for additional development.

02 | Drought Stress & Water-Use Research

Investigate plant performance under reduced water availability.

Water availability is a growing challenge for agricultural production. Our greenhouse drought stress studies are designed to evaluate how agricultural treatments influence plant growth and physiological responses under controlled water limitations.

Experiments compare treated and untreated plants under defined irrigation conditions.

A representative protocol may include drought-stressed plants receiving 25% of the water supplied to regularly irrigated plants, with adjustments made according to crop requirements and research objectives.

Measurements may include plant growth, visible stress symptoms, biomass accumulation, recovery following irrigation, and yield-related characteristics.

When appropriate, these studies can be combined with laboratory-based gene expression or microbiome analysis to investigate potential mechanisms associated with improved drought response.

03 | Nutrient Uptake & Plant Nutrition Analysis

Understand how your product influences nutrient availability and plant assimilation.

Plant development depends on the availability and uptake of essential macro- and micronutrients.

Our greenhouse nutrient studies investigate how fertilizers, mineral amendments, and biological inputs affect plant growth and nutrient acquisition.

Research may evaluate:

* Macronutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium

* Essential micronutrients and trace elements

* Nutrient accumulation in roots, leaves, and fruit

* Plant growth responses to nutrient treatments

* Interactions between soil amendments and plant nutrient availability

Plant tissue and soil samples may be collected for complementary laboratory analysis.

These studies can help determine whether improved growth is associated with changes in nutrient availability, uptake, or utilization.

04 | Microbiome Profiling & Plant–Microbe Interactions

Investigate the biological communities associated with plant growth and productivity.

Microbial communities in soil and plant tissues can influence nutrient cycling, plant development, and responses to environmental conditions.

Our research investigates how agricultural products may alter microbial communities associated with plants.

Sampling and analysis can focus on three important environments:

* Soil microbiome: Microorganisms present in the surrounding growing medium.

* Rhizosphere microbiome: Microbial communities associated with the soil immediately surrounding plant roots.

* Root endosphere microbiome: Microorganisms residing within internal root tissues.

Depending on study objectives, microbial communities associated with leaves may also be investigated.

Greenhouse treatment comparisons provide plant material and environmental context for complementary laboratory-based microbiome profiling.

These studies help researchers determine whether product applications are associated with changes in microbial community composition and how those changes relate to plant performance.

05 | Mode-of-Action Research

Go beyond product performance to investigate why a treatment works.

Understanding a product’s mode of action is essential for scientific validation, product development, and evidence-based communication.

Our greenhouse research can be designed to investigate the physiological and biological processes underlying observed plant responses.

By comparing treated and untreated plants, researchers can identify changes in growth, development, nutrient responses, and stress tolerance.

Targeted experiments can then investigate potential mechanisms through complementary wet lab analysis.

Mode-of-action studies may incorporate:

* Plant physiological measurements

* Nutrient uptake analysis

* Microbiome profiling

* Seedling development assays

* Gene expression studies

* Biochemical analysis

Our integrated approach connects greenhouse observations with targeted biological investigations to develop a more complete understanding of product behavior.

06 | Seedling Photomorphogenesis Assays

Investigate how agricultural products influence early plant development and light-responsive growth pathways.

Seedling photomorphogenesis assays examine how plants respond to light conditions during early development.

These experiments can be particularly useful for investigating agricultural products that influence seedling establishment, growth regulation, or developmental signaling.

Studies compare untreated controls with product-treated seedlings under defined environmental conditions, which may include darkness and selected light wavelengths.

Measurements may include hypocotyl elongation, root development, cotyledon expansion, and other developmental characteristics.

Because many light-responsive plant signaling pathways are well characterized, these assays can help identify biological processes potentially affected by a treatment.

Where appropriate, follow-up gene expression studies can investigate changes in specific pathways associated with the observed growth responses.

07 | Plant Gene Expression & Biochemical Research

Connect observable plant responses with underlying molecular processes.

Greenhouse trials provide controlled treatment conditions and plant samples for advanced laboratory investigations.

Gene expression studies may be used to determine whether product applications are associated with changes in the activity of genes involved in growth, nutrient metabolism, stress responses, or developmental signaling.

Depending on the research question, molecular investigations may include RNA extraction, targeted gene expression analysis, or broader transcriptomic profiling.

Biochemical assays can provide additional information about physiological responses and metabolic processes.

These analyses are designed as complementary laboratory services and incorporated into greenhouse research protocols when appropriate.

RESEARCH DESIGN & EXPERIMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Customized Studies Built Around Your Product

Every agricultural product presents different research questions. Our greenhouse programs are designed around the client’s formulation, target crop, application method, and desired scientific outcomes.

Research protocols may include:

Experimental Design: Establishing treatment groups, untreated controls, replication, application rates, and study duration.
